The needs of freshwater in the worldEach day a man needs about 2.5 liters of water to be healthy. In developed countries like Great Britain, the authorities keep a good eye on the quality of water. However in some developing countries,many deseases (cholera, typhoid, dysentery...) and millions of deaths are caused by a crucial lack of water and its poor quality. Estimates say that about one human out of four doesn’t get his required amount of freshwater everyday. What can we do to preserve our freshwater resources ?When you are camping you can’t use the city’s infrastructures that clean the water before it is sent back to nature. Therefore you need to be cautious not to dispose of your waste water too close from a spring or a river. Your waste water would not have time to benefit from the soil’s filtering properties and would immediately pollute the freshwater nearby.
The waste water disposalHere is an idea of something you can build at your camp: «the waste water disposal».That way you can be more environment friendly.
You have to dig a funnel-like hole about 20" deep. Put the earth you took out from the hole on the side, so as to make a 12" high wall. Then you should do as shown on the picture. Alternate different layers starting from the bottom :
